Postie bikes to live on, and on

TRACTION, a charity which helps vulnerable, at risk or disengaged youth through mentoring programs, has received a donation of eight motorcycles from Australia Post for our Small Engines program.

Young people in need now have the chance to learn about m e c h a n i c s and completely restore and service them to roadworthy condition.

Some of the motorcycles will be sold to raise funds for the program and some will be kept to train future participants.

We are fortunate that our Moorooka workshop space is provided rent-free within the Pro Honda dealership.

This means our participants, who typically are aged 12 to 15, experience a real-life working environment.

Each of our groups includes six young people who are supported by three mentors, all with unique experience, who help provide a learning environment where the participants can achieve success.

As well as the postal bikes, our core program involves bicycles.

Participants restore, rebuild and customise bicycles donated by the community and get to keep them at the end of the program.
